Via ferrata Tajakante

The Tajakante via ferrata is one of the most impressive via ferrata tours in the Mieminger mountains near the Wetterstein.

Via ferrata Tajakante

An adventure for somewhat experienced climbers, but also very sporty newcomers and nature lovers alike.

Our adventure begins in Ehrwald, the valley town on the Austrian side of the Zugspitze in Tyrol. The nearest towns are Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Reute.

The starting point is the valley station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn cable car in Ehrwald. The tour begins with a hike along a well-marked path that leads through picturesque alpine landscapes. The path is pleasant and runs through dense forests and idyllic alpine meadows.

There is also the option of taking the cable car for the first part of the route. It is even more exciting for experienced mountain bikers or e-bikers, as this not only shortens the walking time to around 1.5 hours, but also provides additional fun on the descent. It takes around 2 hours on foot, while the cable car only takes around 1.5 hours. By e-bike, it even takes just one hour.

Another option for the approach is to climb up to the Coburger Hütte on your own the day before.

The rental equipment is also handed over the day before.

The mountain guide will pick you up at the Coburger Hütte in the morning.

During the ascent, there are some key points that require special attention.

These include narrow ridges, vertical walls and small, airy overhangs. These sections are secured with wire ropes and iron ladders. Of course, the mountain guide will also have a rope with him to provide additional safety if necessary, but his presence and his tips and tricks for progressing will make things much easier for you.

Klettersteig Tajakante

The Tajakante is known for its exposed passages and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.

We climb along a steel cable anchored in the rocks and use steps and ladders to overcome steep sections. A head for heights and climbing skills are required here.

After an exciting climbing passage, we reach the summit of the Tajakante.

Here we are rewarded with a panoramic view of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Among other things, we can also see the huge Zugspitze massif on the south side with its vertical wall, where the Wetterkante, among other things, leads up a very long climbing tour up to the lower 5th degree of difficulty. Let's enjoy a well-earned break and take some souvenir photos.

The descent is via the normal route, which is secured with wire ropes in some places and therefore still requires special attention.

Return to the Coburgerhütte and then, depending on the chosen ascent route, to the car park.
