Mittenwalder Höhenweg

Easy via ferrata, but requires some fitness

Mittenwalder Klettersteig

The Mittenwald via ferrata was created around 50 years ago as the "Mittenwalder Höhenweg" and is now one of the most beautiful high-altitude trails in the Alps. It is located in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps and is known for its unique location and spectacular views.

The view of the Karwendel mountains to the north is particularly impressive. The panoramic view varies depending on the time of day and weather conditions. When the sky is clear, the view stretches as far as the peaks of the Alps, while dramatic cloud formations form over the mountain peaks in changeable weather.

The technical challenges are moderate.

It's not just about the sporting challenge, but also about the opportunity to experience the beauty of nature in the midst of an impressive mountain landscape.

Tour description:

The ride on the Karwendel cable car takes us up to an altitude of 2250 metres. From this point, it is only 15 minutes to the start. The route runs from north to south and often follows the ridge, although it is only particularly exposed in a few places. We follow the border ridge between Germany and Austria, i.e. along the border between Bavaria and Tyrol, along the western boundary of the Karwendel mountains. The descent is via the Brunnsteinanger below the Brunnsteinspitze, where you will also find the Tiroler Hütte, which is no longer open. From there, we reach the idyllically situated Brunnsteinhütte, where refreshing drinks and delicious food await us and give us new energy.
